Take a few hours to listen to Top 40 radio right now and there is a great chance of hearing ‘Victoria’s Secret’ by Jax once, or maybe multiple times. My wife first heard this song and told me about it, and with such a positive message, we both knew I had to write this article on Jax.
For an artist that seemed to jump onto the top charts without warning, there is plenty of background work that has taken place over the last decade or so to get her there.

Born in New York and eventually moving to New Jersey, Jax spent some time as a teenager singing in the band called Meadowland. The band was a mix of pop and punk, which ultimately led to the band performing in 2 large festivals in the NYC metro area.
Meadowland performed at the 2010 PopCon which took place at Nassau Coliseum in New York and featured Justin Beiber, Sean Kingston, and Selena Gomez amongst others. Meadowland also performed at Bamboozle Festival byway of the Breakout Contest in 2011. Listening to the Bamboozle’s podcast ‘Linc’s Special Guest Podcast: JAX (Episode 1)’, Jax took a trip down memory lane recounting these early days including her starstruck meeting with Beiber. Jax will once again hit the Bamboozle stage this May in Atlantic City, NJ.

Jax and the others in Meadowland eventually went their separate ways, but Jax continued her journey within the music industry. Around the age of 18 Jax was diagnosed with cancer above her vocal cords, and was forced to shift her pursuit of music from singing to crafting her songwriting. But as time passed and her voice recovered she auditioned for American Idol, landing a golden ticket on season 14 in 2015. Jax became a finalist finishing in third place.
In March 2020, we all know the world was flipped upside down, especially for industries like music that usually required touring to be part of an income. Like so many people, musicians scrambled to find ways to still connect with fans. Jax was no different than many others and turned to making Tik-Tok videos.
Very few individuals were able to use the platform to go viral as many times as Jax has, especially for someone who was still up and coming in the industry. Her first couple viral moments showed her creative takes on ‘Stacy’s Mom’ and ‘Skater Boi’ and allowed her to show off her writing and vocal skills. She has since gained over 12 million followers with over 195 million likes across her platform. As the world opened up again and people started to see each other again, Jax continued to share Tik-Tok videos with guest appearances from individuals who were household names in pop-culture. Looking through videos, there are too many cameo appearances to name them all, but some highlights include, John Stamos, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Carrie Underwood, Paris Hilton, Patrick Renna (Ham from the Sandlot), and the late great Leslie Jordan.
Although Jax had released an EP in 2017 titled “Funny” that included her first single ‘La La Land,’ the organic growth from Tik-Tok led to the increased streams of the songs currently found on Spotify.
Her first releases currently on Spotify are from 2020, with ‘Come Home To Me’ listed with a Valentine’s Day release date. Although the release date was February 14, the song is not a love song meant for couples, but instead a love song being comfortable loving yourself if the right partner for you hasn’t yet been found. There’s no reason you should feel the need to go home to someone when “I’d so much rather come home to me.” Other songs in her growing catalog include a thank you song to her exes (‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’) , and an homage to 90s pop culture (‘90s Kid’).
As Jax continued to release songs, she eventually attracted the attention of Atlantic Records signing a deal with them in 2021. Jax’s first charting single, ‘Like My Father,’ was released soon after the deal. ‘Like My Father’ is a piano driven ballad highlighting all the positive things her dad does with her mom, making it clear that any man she falls in love with will have large shoes to live up to. Lines in the song include “I guess I learned it from my parents, true love starts with friendship” and “I need a man who loves me like my father loves my mom,” are only a couple parts of the endearing song written about her parents' relationship.
In 2022, the smash hit ‘Victoria’s Secret’ was released. The song is filled with catchy hooks and melodies that will stick in your head well after listening to it. Jax has posted on social media that she was inspired to write the song after the kid she babysits (Chelsea Lascher) told her about a trip to the mall with friends. The song highlights a positive message that Victoria’s Secret isn’t meant for everyone to wear. My wife and I always joked about how Victoria’s secret was that Victoria is a man. I wasn’t aware if that was even true or how many people knew that. But thanks to Jax, anyone that has listened to the hit song now knows he is “An old man that lives in Ohio.”
Personally, this song is a great message, both directly and indirectly for all of us, but especially the younger generation as they are becoming young adults. The message of ‘Victoria’s Secret’ directly talks about how the fashion company wasn’t meant for every person, but indirectly I feel so much more can come from it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the idea of dressing in the clothes that Victoria’ Secret sells, but what’s more important is to find clothes that make you personally feel good, regardless of the brand. As a young adult I’ve also fallen into that world of buying my wife clothes from there based on how it looked on a model or mannequin without any regards for how my wife would feel about it. Now I know better in that how my wife feels in what she wears makes a world of a difference. Plus she can usually get a few outfits for the same cost as one outfit at Victoria’s Secret, a win-win scenario for everyone.
‘Victoria’s Secret’ has amassed more than 125 million streams, and has charted in multiple countries across the globe. The hit song has allowed Jax to perform on The TODAY Show, The Drew Barrymore Show, and to a sold out Madison Square Garden for iHeart Radio’s 2022 Jingle Ball.
You can catch Jax perform live this spring in Atlantic City when she once again plays the Bamboozle Festival. Bamboozle is a 3-day music festival taking place at Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ May 5-7.
