Halloween is over and the seasons in the Philly area have shifted to spring(??). Although the first weekend of November had uncharacteristic warm spring temperatures, the start of the month also means it’s no longer too early to think about December Holiday shows.
On Saturday December 3rd, Bad Habits Booking presents Goalkeeper’s annual holiday show at The Grape Room in Manayunk, (show is 21+ to enter). The other bands supporting Goalkeeper include House & Home, Cheer Up Dusty, Floor Space, and Dr. Feelokay.

Goalkeeper is a staple of the pop-punk community in the Philly area. The trio of Ryan Beebe, Marc Juliano, and Cody Ritchie have not only played their way through the Philadelphia venues, but they have also been picked up for multiple tours. You may have caught them supporting many of the top touring bands in the genre, including Alkaline Trio, All Time Low, Allister, Bowling For Soup, State Champs, The Starting Line, Thrice, and many others. Goalkeeper has released multiple singles and EPs since 2017, however October 2022 saw the band release their first full length LP, ‘I Wish I Met You Sooner,’ featuring ten tracks, including “Car Wreck.” As the second single from the LP, “Car Wreck,” is filled with the fast paced guitars, heavy drums, and catchy vocals that have become a staple of their music. The song brings you into the story of an ending relationship that spirals out of control, something that many people have had to endure. And if you ever wanted to see a drum kit played inside a touring van, the music video is perfect for you.
Although this show is filled with multiple Philly area bands, House & Home make the drive north from the Richmond, VA area. House & Home’s debut album ‘Find Sense. Feel Love. Make Light.” Was released in 2020, however they most recently released their four track EP earlier this summer titled ‘Everything Is Sacred.’ The first song off the EP, “A Familiar Direction,” hits me as a song that speaks to many people, particularly the younger generation, about the realities of moving through life, convinced everything is “according to plan” even though in actuality each day just seems to be on repeat.
Cheer Up Dusty, from Northeast Philly, started putting the puzzle pieces of the band together in 2018. “Last Year Gave Me The Business” is their debut EP released in 2019, with their latest single “Everybody Hates Me” being released earlier this year. With a sound similar to New Found Glory, the title provides a perfect description as to the tone of the lyrics.
Floor Space, from the Bethlehem, PA area, released their recent album “Nothing Makes Sense” this past summer. What I love about the arrangement of this album is how the release opens with the song “Making Sense,” and then comes full circle with the album’s title track “Nothing Makes Sense” closing it out.
Rounding out the listed lineup for the night is Dr. Feelokay. Dr. Feelokay is another Philadelphia band that started releasing music in 2019. Their debut LP, ‘Nothing Ever Ends’ was released last month and features “Two Princes 2” as their latest single. Although this single has a fun twist on the classic fairytale idea of kissing a frog, and claims “don’t try to find me, I’m too good at hiding,” I do hope you find this band and add them to your music rotation.
This show has the makings to be enjoyed by many punk listeners, from those of you, like me, who grew up on Blink 182 and New Found Glory, to the younger crowd keeping the punk sound alive, and all of you in between. Even though so many great pop-punk bands have stuck around for 20+ years, there has been no shortage of new up and coming bands keeping the local venues filled with catchy hooks, power chords, gang vocals, and circle pit moshing sounds. The Philadelphia metro area, (and the north east in general), has been home to many bands that started out playing legendary venues such as The Grape Room, only to go on and headline their own successful cross-country tours. You never know when the next band will break out from the area, and any of these bands have the potential to do just that if they want it hard enough. So do yourself a favor and gift yourself a chance to catch this stacked line up all in one place, and enjoy pop-punk music this holiday season.
